Exotic Phase Transitions and Quantum Multipoles
in f-Electron Systems
Phase transitions in f-electron systems often exhibit quite exotic behaviors. Recently, it has been elucidated that some of them stem from hidden degrees of freedom of f-electrons, the multipolar moments, that has been overlooked for a long time. In this talk, I will review the origin of anomalous phase diagrams in typical materials, in particular CeB6. I will discuss how the puzzles are resolved by introducing high-rank multipoles. The effect of fluctuations and the nature of multipolar dynamics are also discussed.
