Quantum mechanics reading seminar, 2025 summer-
Reading seminar on advanced quantum mechanics, for physicist MSc, and PhD students.
The main purpose is to give a second take on quantum mechanics,
deepening and widening the material of the usual university course.
Recommended prerequisite: quantum mechanics (introductory).
Course Information
- This is a completely unofficial course. Sign up in e-mail if you are interested.
- Lecturer: Szilárd Szalay,
e-mail: szalay.szilard (at) wigner (dot) hu
- Location: mostly in Wigner RCP, Building I., first floor, lecture hall, or possibly online
- Time:
to be fixed from time to time.
- The language of the course will be Hungarian, if every attendant speaks that.
- The material planned to be covered is the series of lecture notes of Robert Littlejohn (UC Berkeley) on quantum mechanics.
You can find it in 52 sections here
https://bohr.physics.berkeley.edu/classes/221/2021/221.html
- We plan to discuss one section in each session (weekly, up to summer holidays, etc),
the sessions are led by the participants rotated.
- There are also exercises, strongly recommended.
Information, announcements
- The lectures of Milán Mosonyi, Péter Vrana and Attila Andai (Mathematical Institute, BUTE) are highly recommended
for those who like quantum mechanics in a more rigorous treatment
and for those who would like to get more quantum information theory
than given in the present lectures.
- For those who are interested in quantum foundations,
the reading seminar led by Gábor Hofer-Szabó
is strongly recommended.
(See further announcements there.)
- 1st. lecture, 14:00, on the 10th of July (Wigner RCP, buliding I., conference room), presented by Péter Nyári: The Mathematical Formalism of Quantum Mechanics.
